The Outer Banks Daredevils kick off their season this week.

Here it is already, Memorial Day weekend, the big season kickoff in all its glory, the unofficial start to the summer season. * And the goings on befit the occasion. This is a week of kickoffs and launchings...

The Lost Colony kicks off its 73rd season on Friday, May 28 at 8 p.m. If you haven't seen this show in a while, you really need to get it together and go. * William Ivey Long's costumes (new last year) are stunning, and the drama has seriously improved in the last several years. * The Opening Night Party will be the hottest ticket on Roanoke Island following the show. Tickets are $18 and you must reserve in advance. * There's a preview night on May 27, with special prices, and the Backstage Tours launch on the 28th before the show...

The Outer Banks Daredevils also kick off their season this week. Wednesday, May 26 is the opening game at First Flight High School Baseball Complex. The game starts at 7:05, but the gates open at 5:30. Chamber members get in free, and The Sea Notes will be singing pre-show...

The Golden Dragon Acrobats are launching the outdoor show season at Roanoke Island Festival Park this weekend. * On Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30 at 8 p.m. the acrobats will be showing off for us mere mortals. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, picnics and make a good time of it. Join Friends of Elizabeth II and it's free. * Otherwise pay $10 per person age 6 and older...

Earlier in the week, Roanoke Island Festival Park is hosting a performance of Little Shop of Horrors. * This one is held indoors. * The show runs May 25 through 27 at 8 p.m. In the afternoons at 2 p.m. you can either meet the cast or see them perform improvisational style...

Down at REAL Kiteboarding in Rodanthe this weekend, it's the Endless Summer Weekend where you can meet and surf with legendary surfer/shaper Robert August. * Music, pig roast, surf sessions, screenings of Endless Summer 1 and 2 and much more will go on all weekend...

To welcome in all the visitors, the music schedule is looking good this week. * The big event? The Wailers are playing at Kelly's on Wednesday, May 26. Better get your tickets early...

Ocean Boulevard has Rajun Cajuns on Friday. * Outer Banks Brewing has The Lee Boys on Friday (that's African-American sacred steel they say). * Locals love Frozen Head and the Squirrels and they're playing Friday at Beach Road Grill. * Port O Call's got a band on Friday - Hey Hey Hooligan...

Maybe better than all of it is the amount of sales going on this weekend... If you've got the time to hunt, the Barr-ee Station tent sale can yield some good finds. I found a thick wool winter coat for $20 there over Easter weekend. * Happy Shopping!
