Cory West
Cory Campbell born February 14, 1987. He is an American singer/songwriter and guitar player from Roanoke, Va and raised throughout many counties in southern Virginia. Campbell currently lives in NYC.
Campbell picked up the guitar at age 14. It was not until hearing Derek Trucks, guitar prodigy and at the time member of The Allman Brothers Band that Campbell began to realize what would soon become a singular focus.
“Music was an integral part of our household” quotes Campbell and goes on to say “I was primarily raised by a young single mother. It was a great way to grow up, albeit a turbulent one. There was always something happening, always someone coming over or us off to see a friend. The thing that really sticks with me from childhood is the memory of music. There seemed to always be a soundtrack, Tom Petty, Elton, Miles, Van, something was always playing. We didn’t have much but man it was beautiful, we didn’t need much. Looking back now I don’t think I had much choice in this being a musician thing, I was hooked early.”
Campbell possesses many gifts, exquisite guitar playing, remarkable songwriting and an undeniable authenticity. While delivering a performance you are immediately captured by his lasting melodies. While they some how feel fresh and new they also posses the mark of someone who has done their homework, the impression that this man has looked inside the works of the greats and distilled through his own scope a powerful voice.
While drawing from the classic sounds of Tom Petty, Ray Charles, Van Morrison and Bill Withers, Campbell takes you on a journey through stories of crimson heartbreak, golden hued memories and the often bleak landscape of lost dreams.
Campbell has had the pleasure to open and perform alongside many remarkable artists including Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earle, Will Hoge, The Black Lillies, Megan McCormick Jim Lauderdale and many more.
