Big Blue Live! Watch Party and Sleepover
Join the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island for a Big Blue Live! Watch Party! PBS is partnering with the BBC to bring a live television feature from California’s Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, celebrating the return of formerly-endangered water-based wildlife. The Aquarium will be streaming this live television showing of UNC-TV’s natural history event, Big Blue Live! Watch live underwater coverage on location, in hopes of seeing whales, sea otters, sea lions, great white sharks, brown pelicans, and other wildlife flourishing in Monterey Bay. See firsthand how the Monterey Bay has earned accolades as one of the world’s most successful conservation projects, in this never before seen footage. This live event will be hosted by Dr. M. Sanjayan, host of EARTH, A New Wild, Liz Bonnin, a science broadcast journalist based in the UK, and Dr. Joy Reidenberg, host of PBS’s Sex in the Wild program. You will not want to miss this historical event in the making!
The Aquarium event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open to all ages. Exhibits will be open for touring from 6:30 until 8, and the live Big Blue Live! feature will be shown in the Theater from 8 - 9 p.m. Light snacks will be provided for the showing of Big Blue Live! Regular admission rates apply for this exclusive evening event. UNC-TV Kids Club Members and NC Aquarium Society Members are admitted free, with proper ID.
If you would like to extend your evening at the Aquarium until the morning hours, limited spaces will be available for our “Sleeping with the Sharks” overnight experience! Your evening will continue after the live show with a staff-led ocean conservation program. Participants will then wind-down and settle in for the night in front of our 285,000-gallon Graveyard of the Atlantic Tank, home to 10 sharks and numerous fish! A light breakfast is provided the following morning, followed by an 8:30 a.m. departure time. Aquarium Members and UNC-TV Kids Club Members receive a 10% discount with proper ID.
