The Cobia are Here!!!! Captain Ryan sent these into me yesterday and he is one of our charter boats hit the jackpot as he was coming back to port and hit his limits of cobia. This is the time of year to go out and hunt for these fish, so don't miss out on a chance to get these fish and have a killer day on the water and we do have some openings for next week available.
Congratulations to young 8-year-old Madden Mckeever from Irwin Pennsylvania. He had the force with him while fishing the Pine Island area on May the 4th and caught his first fish from the surf and caught this toothy critter. They said he was quite happy with his catch and I am pretty sure he will be trying for more today, great job Madden!!
We did see a problem with the seagrass in some spots yesterday and the current did pick up requiring some heavier weight. We had many reports of a good mullet bite which seem to be the story along the beach with some pesky skates of course and some bluefish also reported. I am just waiting to start to see a trout bite because these fish are just to the south of us and I still say it's just about water temp. We are at 57 again today with a cooler wind from the north but that will change tomorrow and we still have pretty flat surf. The bait that is working well are bloodworms, shrimp and fish bites have been the key to a good bite.
Nearshore boats, their fishing really has improved now with the cobia coming in and there are king mackerel not far offshore as well, so some real good action going off nearshore. Inshore there are puppy drum and some trout. Offshore didn't make it out with the wind yesterday but I should have hopefully a Sunday report for you as I will be out on the Little Shell on Saturday trying my luck offshore as this will be my only chance to get out on the water this year. So wish me luck the only bad news is it's check-in day and I am not sure at this time if we will be open at the shop which will disappoint a lot of you but we will defiantly be here on Sunday but just call the shop tomorrow and see if anyone is here before you head this way we might have one person in.
