Dale and the Zdubs Playing Live!
A fresh rock/reggae groove is flowing out of Montgomery County, MD and their name is Dale and the ZDubs. Born out of Montgomery County, Maryland, the band, comprised of Dale Rodman (vocals/guitar), Sean Dunnevant (vocals/bass), Mike Candela (electric guitar), Brandon Moultrie (saxophone/ewi), and Miles Lieder (drums), features some of the most talented, passionate, and strange musicians ever to grace a concert stage.
The band began their journey together in 2011, solidifying their lineup in early 2013. With each member bringing different influences and styles to the group, DZD’s sound is made up of a distinct reggae tone that is incorporated into their hard hitting rock style. DZD’s lyrics depict the relationships, dreams, failures, and people that have inspired or slept with the band. Their high-energy live shows feature multi-part vocal harmonies and radical solos from guitar, bass, drums, and sax. Sometimes Dale takes his clothes off on stage, too.
Since their formation, the band has released a self-titled EP, as well as a full-length studio album, Leave the Drama, which was released in April of 2013. The band just finished their sophomore album, Clear the Smoke” with renowned producer Jim Ebert, recording at Cue Studios’ Red Room in Falls Church, VA. The album was released on April 20, 2014.
DZD continues to focus on perfecting their live show, having played at numerous popular venues such as Rams Head Live Baltimore, The Fillmore Silver Spring, The Virginia State Theatre, DC’s Rock & Roll Hotel, Jammin’ Java in Vienna, Virginia, New York City’s Arlene’s Grocery, and Seacrets in Ocean City, Maryland. While they frequently draw crowds of 300+, they aren’t afraid to play smaller gigs, where they can connect more intimately with their audience through unplugged and acoustic sets.
DZD continues to add to their list of successes. On New Years Eve 2012, the guys played to a sold out crowd at the 8x10 in Baltimore alongside Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. Only a few months prior, the band received first place out of 32 bands at the Jammin’ Java Mid-Atlantic Band Battle. The band has opened for several nationally recognized acts, including Badfish – a tribute to Sublime, Big Something, Larry Keel, Pacific Dub, Ballyhoo, Fear Nuttin Band, and Con Bro Chill. They also just solidified a slot on this year’s Camp Barefoot Music and Arts Festival lineup along side Passafire, Papadosio, Kyle Hollingsworth Band, and The Motet. Dale and the ZDubs continue to branch outside of the DC-Maryland-Virginia Area, playing shows up and down the East Coast on their first regional tour this spring/summer.
