Duck Public Safety Night

This Event has no scheduled dates at this time. It last occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2015.
Duck Town Park, Duck Public Safety Night
Event Description:

The National Association of Town Watch organization created National Night Out as an annual community-building campaign held in August and October.  The event brings police and community partners together to help build neighborhood camaraderie and strengthen communities.

Attendees will enjoy opportunities to check out police and fire turnout gear, use the fire hose, learn how to use a fire extinguisher, participate in a police obstacle course, learn about bike safety, enjoy Segway demonstrations, and get an up close look at fire trucks and police vehicles.  Duck Surf Rescue will be on hand as well.  Hot dogs and refreshments will be available. Also, all attendees will receive a blue glow bracelet to wear.  Participants will form a “thin blue line” to commemorate fallen law enforcement officers, and to symbolize the relationship of law enforcement in the community as the protectors of civilians from criminal elements.  A photo of the line will be taken from the Duck Fire ladder truck.

Duck Police invite businesses and residents to turn on their porch lights to turn off crime, on October 6 and throughout the week. As a special support of law enforcement, Duck Police is distributing blue light bulbs to businesses and Duck residents.

Duck Fire asks all to make sure each bedroom has a working smoke alarm.  The National Fire Protection Association reports that 71% of smoke alarms which failed to operate had missing, disconnected or dead batteries. An effective way to ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have working batteries is to replace them each fall and spring when you change your clocks during Daylight Saving Time which ends on Sunday, November 1, 2015.
