Outer Banks Articles & Shorts - Issue 35: Fall/Winter 2024/25

Greetings!

Well, it has happened again! Another successful summer has passed, and here we are in Outer Banks fall! I know so many locals who say this is their favorite time of year here, and I’m certainly in that camp. And, this year, with the cooler than usual temps, I feel like we autumn lovers are getting an extra dose of what we love.

Speaking of what we love, our very first Outer Banks This Week magazine came out in the fall of 2013, and the theme of that issue was Oh How We Love Fall on the Outer Banks. Among other things, we loved bonfires, fall fishing, football, Halloween in Manteo, Thanksgiving buffets, pumpkin fairs, sweater weather, the autumn sky, the Duck Jazz Festival and of course all the holiday happenings. Here, 11 years later, we can still claim to love all those things. You know, most of us lament the changes that have happened here over the past decades, but it’s also comforting to know that there are elements of the Outer Banks that remain constant, year after year – things we love.

This fall issue is our 35th! Looking through that first issue, it’s heartwarming to me to see that many of our very first advertisers – Bob’s Wild Horse Tours, Joe Lamb, Jr. & Associates, Surf or Sound Realty, Phideaux Fishing, the Outer Banks Seafood Festival, the Outer Banks Family YMCA, the Town of Duck and the Duck Jazz Festival – are still a part of the Outer Banks This Week publications, and we’re very grateful. Creating this magazine is, and has been, such a joy. To be able to tell the story of businesses from the inside perspective, the personal, the reason they’re here is an honor, not just journalism. We thank all of you who participate with us.

May you all have a wonderful fall and winter. We’ll see you walking the (not crowded) beach, at a festival, participating in a road race, at a (less crowded) restaurant or maybe at an oyster roast!

Beth
