Gulf Stream Adventure Tour
There’s more to the Gulf Stream than fishing. The Gulf Stream Adventure was created for those who want to experience the beauty of the “river in the sea” without the fishing. The tour leaves from Pirates Cove Marina and travels through Oregon Inlet, hugging the shore of Hatteras Island before venturing out to the Gulf Stream near the cape.
Along the way, you’ll see the soundside islands, the new Marc Basnight Bridge over Oregon Inlet, the Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and Diamond Shoals Light Tower. Once you see the Sargasso weed lines and the water changes color to a beautiful blue, you’ll know you’ve reached the Gulf Stream. Wildlife you may see on this trip includes sea turtles, dolphins, porpoise, whales, flying fish, rays, sharks and a variety of pelagic birds such as petrels, tropicbirds, shearwaters, storm-petrels, jaegers, terns and so many more. The mate and captain will point out sights along the way. Due to the distance of the Gulf Stream, about 35 miles off shore, Gulf Stream Adventure Tours are a full-day trip, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
