Silver Chalice 16th Century Boat

Roanoke Island Festival Park, Silver Chalice 16th Century Boat

The Silver Chalice is the tender boat for the Elizabeth II, a reproduction of the 16th-century sailing vessel that brought the 1587 colonists to Roanoke Island from England. Such tenders were necessary for transporting passengers and cargo to and from land since the large ships could not navigate the shallow coastal waters. The Silver Chalice is built of white cedar over oak, is 24 feet long with a 6-foot beam and displaces 2000 pounds. She can carry 15 passengers and requires a 5-7-person crew for rowing.
