It's Awfully Good

By Amelia Boldaji

Seafood buffs have been flocking to Awful Arthur’s Oyster Bar since they first opened their doors in 1984. Their popularity is no surprise — as the only authentic oyster bar on the Outer Banks, diners can watch their steamed seafood being prepared fresh to order, and it’s also famous for serving up succulent oysters year round. “It’s always oyster season somewhere!” declares owner Jo Whitehead.

That’s not their only claim to fame either. Recognized by Coastal Living as one of the Top 10 oyster bars in the nation and lauded for their steamed spiced shrimp by Esquire, Awful’s fans come from far and wide to choose from a variety of menu items that also include seafood dinners, sandwiches, steaks, pastas, salads and plenty of options for the little ones too. Take in the ocean view in their upstairs lounge, and be prepared to enjoy something awfully good at Arthur’s!
