Sunny days coupled with green ocean water have lured in plenty of visitors to Jennette’s so far this season. When it was crystal clear recently, pier anglers could see sheepshead feeding. Perhaps one of favorite activities of summer starts in June. Our Family Fishing program gets people out on the planks and fishing for dinner most weekdays all summer long. 🎣🐟

This Pier Fishing 101 class offers everything you need to give it a try – instruction, equipment, bait and tackle. The pier carries a blanket fishing license for everyone, so you don’t need to purchase one. Jennette’s Pier, where Family, Fishing and Fun are all rolled into one! ☀️

The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is excited to share that one of our long‑standing non-releasable sea turtles, Phantom, has been successfully transferred to the Kansas City Zoo. Phantom, a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, now calls the Sobela Ocean Aquarium at the Kansas City Zoo home. 🐢 There, Phantom joins green sea turtle Tortellini—another non-releasable resident. Tortellini uses an adaptive buoyancy device to help manage floating challenges caused by a shell injury from a likely boat strike.

Kemp’s ridley sea turtles are the smallest sea turtle species and are classified as critically endangered. You can follow Phantom’s continued success at the Sobela Ocean Aquarium at the Kansas City Zoo!

This weekend we took our guests a tad south of our usual culinary trajectory with a dish straight out of the Bavarian Alps: SCHWEINSHAXE!
Schweinshaxe (literally 'swine's hock'), in German cuisine, is a roasted ossobuco-style pork knuckle especially popular throughout Bavaria. Our version pulls in a little bit of local flair with a maple-pecan glaze made with real maple syrup and Kill Devil Pecan Rum handcrafted by our local heroes, the masters of molasses at Outer Banks Distilling.
