Selection, Service & Style

When Kelly, a local surfer, needed a bathing suit that fit her perfectly whether she was spending long days in the water or relaxing with friends surfside she didn’t even hesitate: She went directly to Birthday Suits. “If you’re small on the bottom and large on top like me,” she says, “or even the other way around, you can’t buy a suit that’s all one size. At Birthday Suits all of their two pieces are sold separately so you have infinite options for sizes, colors and even styles. I love that I can customize a suit that’s uniquely me.”

Birthday Suits has been a fixture on the Outer Banks for more than 30 years now, and they’ve built a name for themselves by carrying quality swimwear in a variety of the very latest styles that can be comfortably flattering to women of all shapes and sizes (up to a bra size G!), plus a wide selection of sportswear for men, women and children. Not sure what you’re looking for? Don’t worry, there’s always someone on hand to help you select a suit that’s just right for you. “We’re the swimsuit doctors!” owner Jill Bennett says with a laugh. She’s not joking, though; it’s definitely a sentiment that all her customers would agree on. On a typical day, the staff at Birthday Suits will fit teens looking for something skimpy, moms who want to look young but feel comfortable and even grandmoms who want maximum coverage and style. “It’s the only place I go when I’m looking for a bathing suit,” Kelly adds. “Throw in one of their great outfits and I’m even ready to go straight from the beach to a nice restaurant. What more could I want?”
