Dare County Youth Orchestra Presents Messiah
Kicking off the holiday season, Dare County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) will host Handel’s Messiah. The orchestra and chorus will be under the direction of Robin Fountain. The musical event will be a celebration of community, talent, and generosity, a special opportunity for music lovers to support the future of orchestral education. Youth members of DCYO will join the string quintet during the performance of the Hallelujah Chorus. This event offers our community a chance to experience a timeless masterpiece while supporting the next generation of musicians.
Since its founding in 2006, the Dare County Youth Orchestra has grown from 50 students in before-school clubs to a county-wide force of over 200 students in all but one school. DCYO also provides orchestral instruction at the Dare County Schools Early College. DCYO’s mission is to ensure that every child in the county has access and opportunity to learn a string instrument, which can significantly enhance cognitive development, discipline, motor skills and creativity. DCYO provides instruction, instruments and support, and scholarships ensure no one is turned away.
Admission is free, but because this is DCYO’s only fundraiser, donations are appreciated.
