OBX Events, Dare County Youth Orchestra Presents Messiah
Event Description:

“It’s just not the holidays to me without being a part of the Messiah,” touted one local Outer Banks participant in reference to the annual community performance. Performers and patrons can “Hallelujah!” once again for the performance scheduled for November 26, 4pm at Holy Redeemer by the Sea in Kitty Hawk, NC. John Buford, chorus director at First Flight High & Middle Schools will once again direct the concert.

Enthusiasts of all ages are invited to perform. “I’d love to look upon the group and see people from all sorts of backgrounds - whether they sing in high school, church, community choruses or enjoy karaoke,” remarked Buford.  “The cathedral-like acoustics at the church provide a thrilling place to sing. The musicians love it.”

He invites anyone willing to invest some time for Saturday rehearsals to join him in presenting the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah at the November concert.

Buford explains that there are several ways to become involved in this performance. “Folks can attend rehearsals and sing in concert with the Messiah chorus, or if that can’t make rehearsals, people can bring their scores and sing from their seats too.”

To communicate rehearsal times he has an information site for performers to visit: www.sites.google.com/site/obxmessiah. The site has complete details including offsite links to practice parts from home. Additionally, he invites folks before attending the rehearsals to complete a form on the page to let him know of their interest and what part they sing.

The performance will be accompanied by a string orchestra featuring local and regional musicians.

This year’s performance will be presented with gratitude to Holy Redeemer by the Sea Catholic Parish. The Bryan Cultural Series is sponsoring Dare County Youth Orchestra for the event.

“We are delighted to perform this inspiring work on the Outer Banks,” he added. “And this year we will be highlighting the Dare County Youth Orchestra program with the concert.”

Dare County Youth Orchestra (DCYO) is a non-profit formed as a financial support for the strings program in Dare County Schools. Donations for the organization will be solicited at the concert performance. High school students in the strings program will be invited to perform in portions of the program alongside the professional string players.

Admission is free for the performance.
