But not to worry, the Banker horses instinctively know to move to higher ground and seek shelter under the sturdy trees in our maritime forests. They will often huddle together with their backs to the wind to brace against the gusts. #buttstothewind

We’re deeply sorry to share that the OBX Marathon Weekend (Fun Run, 5k, 8k, Half Marathon, Marathon, and Expo) November 8–9 2025 has been canceled due to the ongoing government shutdown. Unfortunately, we do not have access to the necessary government officials required on site or for road closures; as well as crowd control to ensure a safe event. We know this is incredibly disappointing — for you, for our volunteers, and for our community who look forward to welcoming runners each fall. Thank you sincerely for registering and for your continued support of Outer Banks Sporting Events.

The Corolla Wild Horse Fund, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit, raises approximately 85% of its budget through donations, special events, memberships, sponsorships, grants, and mission-related merchandise sales, all without federal or state funding. Every dollar donated helps further our mission to protect and conserve the Banker horses living on the northern Outer Banks. Contributions are tax deductible in accordance with IRS regulations.

Downtown Manteo will experience a high volume of pedestrian traffic on Halloween. In an effort to ensure safety, the Town of Manteo will be closing several streets in Downtown Manteo. We will be closing a portion of Sir Walter Raleigh Street between Uppowoc Ave. and Lord Essex Ave. from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 31st (Halloween). We thank all of you for your cooperation in helping to make Downtown Manteo a safe place for our children and families on Halloween!
