“Every year is a different story here at Sanctuary. We mix new adventures and new wines in with what’s already here and popular,” says John Wright, manager of Sanctuary Vineyards. Not only does the vineyard introduce new wines that add to its story, but it also offers a number of story-worthy activities. There’s Pinot Paddle, a tour in partnership with Kitty Hawk Kites that features kayaking on the sound followed by a wine tasting. For a longer excursion, embark on the Vineyard Voyage, a pleasure cruise that takes you across the Currituck Sound, then docks for a private tour of the vineyards by safari vehicle, and is topped off by a private wine tasting. Another activity is dining at Thyme and Tide, the on-site cafe whose eclectic menu will feature tapas this spring. Even better, take a charcuterie and cheese platter into the 25-acre vineyard for an al fresco dining experience. While you’re checking out the grounds, try the Morton Red Table Wine, a smooth, dry red that recently won a Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Adventures await!
