Stepping into Alice’s Craft Gallery, you’re surrounded by art that feels authentic and lovingly made. The gallery, located in Corolla’s Monteray Plaza, carries handmade jewelry, pottery, glass and woodwork, prints and chimes by American, Canadian and North Carolina-based artists. Owner Alice Mickle chooses every piece individually, and it shows. You’ll find both functional and decorative items at reasonable prices — and some of the largest selections of earrings and pottery in the area. In the summer, the gallery has extended hours.
With the distinctive work of so many artists on display, Alice’s merits the name “gallery.” Ila Smith, who lived in Frisco for years and passed away in 2011, painted her beloved animal subjects with very small brushes to create great detail. As Alice says, “the more you look at Ila’s work, the more detail you see.” Her art is now available not only in prints, but also on tiles, glass cutting boards, coasters and greeting cards.
