If you’re looking for a local catering service that puts love into its food and service, family-owned Outer Banks Catering and Events offers more than 30 years of experience and an exceptionally well-rounded menu of cuisine.

From the same family that owns Sooey’s BBQ & Rib Shack, Simply Southern Kitchen, Shipwreck’s Taphouse & Grill, Sandtrap Tavern and Castaways Cabana (located beachside by the pool at TownePlace Suites in Kill Devil Hills), Outer Banks Catering and Events offers a menu inspired by all four of their popular restaurants including options in barbecue, seafood, Southern cooking and more.

Established in 2001, Outer Banks Catering and Events focuses its wide-ranging services on more than just weddings. Owner Beaman Hines, a sixth-generation Outer Banks native, says they pride themselves on an ethos of Southern hospitality and family-centered celebrations. Hines and his crew will bring your foodie dreams to life for anything from birthdays, graduations, engagements, sporting events to bachelor or bachelorette parties and beyond.

The family of restaurants and the catering company, all under the umbrella of Barnyard Foods, works cohesively to give people exactly what they want.

“A lot of people will call Sooey’s BBQ for big orders and want to add on seafood, which is where Shipwrecks comes in,” says Annaleigh Hines, HR director and leader of catering and events. She emphasizes that they have talented chefs in multiple types of fare, which gives them a unique advantage to cater to their clients’ individual visions or dietary preferences.

Sooey’s BBQ & Rib Shack offers wings, hushpuppies, pork BBQ and other grilled dishes. Simply Southern Kitchen serves fried chicken, fried okra, cornbread and other classic Southern comfort foods. Shipwrecks does steamers, crab cakes, shrimp n’ grits, a wide variety of decadent seafood dishes and tap-house-style foods to go with its 22 drafts. Sandtrap Tavern boasts an all-day menu from breakfast sandwiches to fish tacos. The catering menu borrows from all of them.

Outer Banks Catering and Events also offers on-site hosting.

“We have venues like Sandtrap Tavern where we can host parties when there are a lot of people coming,” Annaleigh says. “We can also hold events on Shipwrecks’ upper deck and accommodate a DJ for a personalized atmosphere.”

The beauty of having the catering company tied to their various restaurants is that no matter which of the family businesses is contacted for an event, there is a central organized entity pulling it all together.

Outer Banks Catering and Events also has two food trucks they use for on-site events like VusicOBX at Roanoke Island Festival Park (look for them at the Iration and Pepper show on July 27) and Acoustic Sunsets at Sanctuary Vineyards. They also have a new off-site catering kitchen for seamlessly preparing for gatherings from as small as 20 people to as large as 300.

Whether you’re going out for a small dinner or organizing a celebration for a large group, the restaurants and Outer Banks Catering and Events owned by Hines hold multiple Best of the Beach awards for their food and a love for gathering people together for generations to come.
