Into the Mix: The Spice and Tea Exchange

By Heather Frese | Thursday, June 15, 2017

Question: What combines a newly opened, locally owned, family-operated shop with a love of cooking, teas, exotic spices and accessories? Answer: The Spice and Tea Exchange in Duck’s Scarborough Lane Shoppes. Mother/daughter team Terry Bell and Megan Scott’s venture revolves around their mutual love of cooking. During a trip to the mountains, Terry fell in love with a cozy, trading post-style shop called The Spice and Tea Exchange. She discovered she could join the franchise, yet their store would be completely independent. The highlight of this shop is their custom spice blends — Terry and Megan offer up more than 80 unique, hand-mixed combinations. Since the spices are not your ordinary blends, customers are encouraged to open containers and smell for themselves! Salt blends in grinders are mixed fresh, and flavored sugars, all sorts of teas and accessories such as mortars and pestles round out the shop’s offerings. With tea tastings, demonstrations, upcoming cooking classes and more, this mother-daughter shop promises to be a go-to spot in The Scarborough Lane Shoppes.
