Hatteras Island Gallery Tour: Great Art & Giveaways

By Michael Lay | Monday, November 18, 2013
The Hatteras Island Gallery Tour Runs Nov. 27–30.

When thinking of Hatteras Island, most people instantly think sun, sand and surf...and with good reason, of course. After a little additional consideration, many people will also point toward the number of sites and attractions, from shipwrecks to museums and wildlife reserves to lighthouses, before also noting the number and variety of excellent dining options in township after township. But what may surprise many Hatteras fans, and even some locals, is the sheer number of practicing artists and artist-owned galleries operating on Hatteras Island - the largest gallery community on the Outer Banks! You can rectify this oversight, and get a jump on your holiday shopping, too, by taking part in the self-guided Hatteras Island Gallery Tour running Thanksgiving week from Wednesday, November 27 through Saturday, November 30. From Rodanthe in the north to Hatteras Village at the south, you'll find more than a dozen participating studios and galleries offering a welcoming atmosphere, beautiful artistic creations of all kinds, light refreshments and special giveaways. At each stop you'll have an opportunity to enter a drawing to win one-of-a-kind creations from Hatteras Island's close-knit community of artists! Along the tour, interspersed with expanses of Hatteras' natural beauty, you'll find gallery after gallery of original, locally crafted art, from paintings and photography to pottery, glass fusion creations, jewelry and more! Plus, you'll have an opportunity to meet and greet gallery owners and practicing artists, developing connections that will last for years. Brochures listing participating galleries and their locations will be available at each gallery on the tour. For the most up-to-the-minute information and details visit the Blue Pelican Gallery website.

In conjunction with the Hatteras Island Gallery Tour, OuterBanksThisWeek.com will sponsor a contest in which three lucky winners will win prize packets consisting of four unique works of Hatteras Island art each. The drawing will be held on Monday, December 2. Twelve unique works of art, three lucky winners and one great artistic adventure!
