Between Tides: A Reading & Conversation With Angel Khoury
Angel will be reading from her book and talking with Downtown Books owner Jamie Hope Anderson, in the historic second floor courtroom of the Dare County Arts Council in downtown Manteo, about the novel, her process, life in a small town and more. Angel will be signing books before and after the event, additional copies will be available for purchase.
Between Tides ebbs and flows between the beaches of Cape Cod and the beaches of Hatteras Island. It flows in time as well, between the late 1800's and the 1940's, so for dual time and historical fiction fans out there, this is THE next big read. One man, two wives, two families, a Gulf Stream apart... what happens when those worlds collide after he is gone leaving only survivors behind, as if flotsam and jetsam? Khoury explores the relationship that develops between a woman at the end of her life still mourning for the life she lost so many decades before, and a young woman just beginning her own but trying to figure out all the pieces that go together to form her puzzle. And then there are the settings of wild dunes and dangerous shoals, wrack and ruin, shipwrecks, fishing shacks, bird dogs, skiffs...she has truly captured coastal life in the late 19th century and does it so well it is startling sometimes to look up from the page and discover oneself back in our own modern age. A book to read from start to finish in one sitting, a book sure to please lovers of the written word, a debut that is going to make waves throughout the literary world.
