Open House
Event Description:
Kick off Mother’s Day weekend in style, at Island Farm’s Open House! The Farm will open its doors for FREE for a day full of 19th-century activities, tours, crafts, and more! Come out for a great beginning of Mother’s Day Weekend!
What to expect:
- Interact with our banker ponies, as well as other heritage breeds of livestock.
- The forge will be hot in the blacksmith shop, where visitors will be invited to interact and forge their own mini-swords.
- Hand quilting demonstrations will take place till 1:00 p.m.
- The homeplace will be open for guided tours, while the cookhouse hearth will be going, offering a glimpse into antebellum cooking, as well as the entire process used to harvest, process, and make yaupon tea.
- Local author, Robin Daniels Holt will be on site, sharing her book My Daily Bounded Realm, an exploration of Hatteras Island women between 1899 and 1900.
There is plenty of space for families to bring and enjoy a picnic lunch.
