54th Annual Hang Gliding Spectacular
Event Description:
Join professional hang glider pilots, fans, families, and friends for this Kitty Hawk Flight School tradition. The Hang Gliding Spectacular is the longest-running hang gliding competition in the world! We are excited to celebrate the 54th consecutive year of this event and have many fun activities planned! Spectators encouraged! This event is free and open to the public.
Event Highlights:
Thursday, May 14
- 8:00 a.m. — Check-in and setup at the Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg
- 9:00 a.m. — Aerotow competition begins
Friday, May 15
- 9:00–11:00 a.m. — Check-in and setup at Jockey’s Ridge State Park
- 11:00 a.m. — Pilot meeting and dune competition begins
- 6:00 p.m. — Concert on the Dunes at Jockey’s Ridge State Park
- 8:00 p.m. — Social gathering for pilots at Kitty Hawk Kites
Saturday, May 16
- 9:00–10:00 a.m. — Setup at Jockey’s Ridge State Park
- 10:00 a.m. — Pilot meeting and dune competition begins
- 6:30 p.m. — Instructor Alumni Reunion at Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head
- 7:00 p.m. — Woody Jones Memorial Street Dance at Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head
Sunday, May 17
- 8:00–9:00 a.m. — Setup at Jockey’s Ridge State Park
- 9:00 a.m. — Pilot meeting and dune competition begins
- 1:30 p.m. — Rogallo Hall of Fame Inductee Speeches at Jockey’s Ridge State Park Community Room
- 3:00 p.m. — Spectacular Awards Ceremony at Kitty Hawk Kites, Nags Head, followed by the Rogallo Foundation dinner
