Sounds Like the fishing was good yesterday!! We had several reports of a lot of fish crashing the water and folks said they were big. The photo above whos name I don't know has been in the shop all week has been trying to catch a shark and finally got one. Now the amazing thing is I am completely out of shark rigs so he is using one of our hand-tied mono drum rigs with a 5/0 hook. Now, this really shouldn't happen but he got a good hook on this fish and brought it in with 20# test line so folks this is how it's done congratulations!!
We had another angler run in last night and his reel broke where it mounts to the rod while he was hooked up. Doing the only other thing he could he started to pull it in by hand and managed to get it almost in. They did get it in close enough to identify that it was somewhere in the 30 to 40 lb range and it was a black drum. They tried to pull it in but the fish took tumbled in a couple of waves and came off as they just couldn't keep enough pressure on the line and you could see the disappointment in his face. But these things happen.
The fishing was good yesterday and we did have a very good mullet bite along with croakers, spot, puppy drum, sharks, and rays. Reports of a lot of bait in the water and fish hitting the bait but the fish are just out of casting range to try to get to them.
The piers have pompano, spanish, spot, and grey trout with Avalon doing the best this morning. The nearshore boys found spanish, ribbons, and albacore and on the bayside trout, drum and flounder. The offshore fleet had an absolutely fantastic day. Lots of fish on the docks like yellowfin, blackfin, wahoo, and mahi. Lots of flags flying again for the billfish white, blue, and sails were caught and released.

We have fresh mullet in the shop right now and you can send your photos into obxbaitandtackle@yahoo.com
Charters are available both for fishing and shrimping.
Waves at 1 foot with calm wind this morning and the water is 77 today.
