Event Description: 

Next in the 2018 Music at the Meetinghouse Series, UUCOB presents the Elizabeth City State University Jazz Ensemble. UUCOB is excited about bringing jazz to the Outer Banks and providing student musicians an opportunity to perform for our community.

The concert is April 21st at 7:30 p.m. at the UUCOB Meetinghouse (on the corner of Kitty Hawk Rd and Herbert Perry Rd). Doors open at 7:00 p.m., so come early to enjoy socializing and refreshments! Admission is $20. Proceeds will be donated to the church, which in turn donates monthly to local non-profits.

About ECSU Jazz:

The ECSU Jazz Ensemble is the university’s big band musical ensemble dedicated to performing and experiencing jazz. ECSU Jazz Ensemble has performed at the ECSU Jazz Festival and their annual K12 outreach Jazz concerts have been attended by hundreds of local and regional students. The ensemble has received clinic funding from Yamaha Educational Division and sponsorships by CenturyLink. The ECSU Jazz Ensemble supports the Visual and Performing Arts mission with instruction in Jazz history, performance practices and pedagogy. 
 
Associated Professor, Douglas A. Jackson is the ensemble’s director and is in his eleventh year on the ECSU‘s Visual and Performing Arts faculty. Mr. Jackson plays the trumpet and has Bachelor and Master Degrees in Music from California State University, Los Angeles.
