Mountains-To-Sea Trail Birthday Hike at Jockey's Ridge
Event Description:
Celebrate the 42nd birthday of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and hike the tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast at sunset. Jockey’s Ridge is the eastern terminus of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, and is a stunning location to watch the sunset, with a view arcing from the ocean to Roanoke Sound. The sun sets around 7:30, and we will gather to begin the climb to the highest dune at 6:30. Arrive early to explore the visitor center with museum and 360-foot boardwalk that explains the dune’s ecology. Park Superintendent Joy Greenwood will be joining the hike.
