OBX Events, Special Screening: Embrace
Event Description:

On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. Luxury Lingerie & Beauty Boutique and Outer Banks Hotline will present a special screening of the documentary film EMBRACE at R/C Movies 10  located at 1803 N. Croatan Hwy Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.

This movie will be free to the public. This film is usually only shown in a city if enough pre-sale tickets are sold, however, funding for this showing has been provided by Luxury Lingerie & Beauty Boutique and Outer Banks Hotline. All donations and sponsorship proceeds raised for this event will go towards a new local Bra Charity being launched. Embrace is a social impact documentary that explores the issue of body image.

International body image activist Taryn Brumfitt became a household name in 2013 when she posted a photograph of herself naked on the internet. What followed was an international media frenzy, which led Taryn to write, produce and directed her first feature documentary EMBRACE.

Embrace is told from the point of view of director Taryn Brumfitt as she traverses the globe talking to experts, women in the street and well-known personalities such as Ricki Lake, Mia Freedman, Amanda de Cadenet, German actress Nora Tschirner and celebrity photographer Jeffrey Madoff about the alarming rates of body image issues that are seen in people of all body types. In her affable and effervescent style, Taryn bares all (literally) to explore the factors contributing to this problem and seeks to find solutions.

After 24 months of traveling, interviewing, production and post-production Taryn and the Embrace team have created a film that is relevant, relatable, highly engaging – but above all life-changing. Embrace had its world premiere at the 2016 Sydney Film Festival, where it made it into the festival directors’ top 5 picks and was nominated for the Documentary Australia Foundation Award for Best Documentary. #ihaveembraced

“I am so excited to bring this movie here again! Last spring we had an amazing turnout and almost ran out of seats. I know after hearing all of the topics covered in the movie, many viewers said they so wished someone they knew had come to see it. I hope to bring more events like this to our community.” ~ Kat Migliore, EMBRACE Movie Captain.

“I am on a quest to redefine and rewrite the ideals of beauty. Women have been brainwashed into thinking fat, wrinkles, and cellulite are bad. They’re not. It’s just a part of being a human being. I say screw the beauty and diet industries that prey on women’s insecurities, become unstoppable and learn to love your body from the inside out.  Your body is not an ornament. It’s the vehicle to your dreams…” ~ Taryn Brumfitt, Founder of the Body Image Movement
