Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft, Cabin Fever Reliever Workshop Series
Event Description:

Break out of the winter doldrums with Pocosin Arts' annual series of winter workshops. The Cabin Fever Reliever includes a pop-up gallery of instructors' and students' work, evening social hour, DJ night and final presentations. The different classes vary in medium, experience level and price, and you can learn more about each in the below descriptions. The fees for each workshop include all materials and lunch on the first and last day.

Play Time!

Learn the skills and techniques of the craftsmanship behind woodworking as you create your own wooden toy. Led by artist Kimberly Winkle, the class teaches students how to properly use a bandsaw, drill press, power grinder and hand carve details into their product. After completing the woodworking portion, students will also learn how to paint and embellish their toys for a polished final product. This workshop is open to all skill levels.

Chasing & Repousse

Gain access to art's exciting and historic world of chasing and repousse in metalwork. To repousse means to form sheet metal from its backside to create raised areas on its front side in variation of low and high relief. Under the direction of Nancy Megan Corwin, students will discover the proper techniques to do this in the class, and then they will learn how to chase the metal, which adds texture and detail to the relief on the front side. By the end of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to turn samples of their work into finished earrings or pendants. Some experience is required for this workshop.

Mixed Media Sculptural Masks

Why do so many traditional masks seem inspired by images of animals? Find out in this workshop taught by artist Nancy Jacobson. To enhance your appreciation for the cultural significance, students will use sculpture techniques to make their own masks from fiber, metals, wood and found objects. This class is open to all skill levels.
