Hey, folks we need your help! There is a proposed bill going up tomorrow (Tuesday 6-24) to ban shrimping in the Sounds and up to 1/2 mile into the ocean. This ban with stop all families that shrimp to put food on their tables, local commercial shrimpers who sell to fish houses that provide to some restaurants, restaurants who sell local shrimp to visitors who want local seafood, local markets that sell local seafood and the local guides who take visitors shrimping!

Major false information going around about shrimp….please stay informed. NC Catch has some solid information posted.

If you have enjoyed the shrimp we have serve here at the Cedar for 30 years PLEASE LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! Please contact house and senate members in N.C. and ask them to vote down this shrimp ban! We need these messages to hit the desk of all members and the Governor too!

Us Mermaids have a little extra work to do this morning, so today's hours will be 11:00-5:00 p.m.

So far, #BLUEFISH and small #CROAKER. There's a moderate West wind at 11 knots and the #ocean water temperature is 68 degrees. High tides 5:55 a.m. and 6:27 p.m. Low tides 12:14 a.m. and 11:56 p.m.

Tucked into this The New York Times piece on the Outer Banks, we were delighted to find a mention...

"Near Corolla, around 110 wild horses still roam free. Known as Banker horses, they are descended from those originally brought over by Spanish conquistadors beginning in the 1500s. For their protection, rules about observing the horses are strict; a 50-foot distance must be maintained at all times. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, you can drive along the beach year-round to see them (though a permit is needed to park). Or book a trip through Wild Horse Adventure Tours (in-season, $74 per adult), whose two-hour excursions will take you off-roading in a 13-passenger, open-air Hummer in search of horses, while sharing their history and following all regulations. The ride can be a bit bumpy and brisk, but the tour and ocean views are spectacular. While sightings aren't guaranteed, on a good day you'll, spot horses strolling the sand, frolicking together or resting among the dunes."

Other than our fried seafood, shrimp and grits is our longest-running menu item. Over the years, we’ve refined it with small tweaks, and it just keeps getting better. Today, it features homemade country sausage, savory country ham, and shrimp in a creamy sauce, served over rich white cheddar and Gouda grits. Oh, and I almost forgot, we finished it with our bacon jam on top!
