Expert Angler -- This bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) roosts on top of our tower and watches the sea carefully for its next fish dinner. According to Nat Geo, Bald eagles can soar over 10,000 feet high, and their great eyesight lets them see fish up to a mile away. When they attack, they drop down at up to 100 miles an hour! Then they glide just above the water, snag a fish with their feet and fly off to eat it. This eagle stayed around for 20 to 30 mintues this afternoon.

Anglers are getting a few SHAD, BLUEFISH and PUFFERS. Sammy shows one with a SEA LAMPREY attached (photo). SEA LAMPREY are anadromous fish, which means they can live in saltwater and freshwater such as rivers where they spawn. Air temp 56 degrees, ocean water temp 55 degrees. There's a moderate breeze of 14 knots out of the NE. High tides 10:30 a.m. and 11:08 p.m. Low tide 4:47 p.m.

Love it! Learn it! Live it! Harmony is a next-level youth choral ensemble serving superstar middle and high school singers based in Martinsville, VA. The Harmony experience celebrates students from diverse backgrounds who have a common passion for music and crave a creative, collaborative environment where each singer plays a valuable role in the ensemble. Harmony rehearses weekly to explore music mechanics like sight singing and music theory, take choral singing to the next level through a variety of music, and create lasting friendships and memories. Music brings us together, and within the Da Capo VA network, Harmony regularly shares music throughout the Southwestern VA region through concerts, community service, and more.

"Will we see horses?"

We fully embrace the “adventure” experience of our tours--the thrill of cruising along the beach as frothy waves roll in, catching a glimpse of the dolphins at play, hearing the seagulls calling, even catching the bald eagles nesting—all while our experienced guides offer insightful, fun and intriguing information about the Banker horses.

While our full intent is to locate and enjoy as many horses for our guests as possible, we also recognize that the horses have weathered a long and harsh winter and this time of the year, they're often nourishing their empty bellies on the fresh greens that are beginning to grow in the many acres of property by the sound. To respect both the laws in Currituck County and the sanctuary land around them, we will only drive on public areas.

So, while the guides are willing, knowledgable and dedicated, sometimes the tours need to be enjoyed for the experience: the learning about the horses and their environment, the discovery of the other wildlife that calls Corolla, home....and, of course, being on the beach in one of our awesome humvees 😉
