Sea Turtles at the STAR Center 🐢 Sea turtles at the STAR Center have a lot going for them—topnotch food, excellent veterinary care, and dedicated volunteers always ready to lend a hand! Right now, six juvenile green sea turtles are calling the STAR Center home until they’re healthy enough to be reunited with sunshine and salt water. This important work has inspired generous and longlasting support from the community. For the seventh year in a row, second grade students at Perquimans Central School crafted and sold handmade bracelets throughout their school to raise funds for the STAR Center. Their continued dedication and creativity have made a real impact on the care we’re able to provide.

🌊 Our current patients include:
• Street Corn – A juvenile green sea turtle recovering from coldstunning and significant frostbite on the shell.
• Professor X – Receiving treatment for coldstunning and joint lesions.
• Penguin – Recovering from coldstunning complicated by a severe joint infection.
• Two unnamed juveniles – Both stranded near Pine Knoll Shores, arriving with heavy barnacle loads and overall weakness.

We’re back! 🎣🌊 The pier has re-opened to fishing and sightseeing. The new custom fiber reinforced polymer planks have a futuristic look and feel. No more spongy boards or nail heads popping up! Spring often provides some of the best fishing of the year, so come on down. In May, there are chances for bluefish, croaker, drum, mackerel, puffers, sea mullets, spot, trout and even cobia as the water continues to warm up. See you soon!

The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) is proud to announce an Educator’s Discount as part of the 89th Anniversary Season of The Lost Colony. This discount, intended to be used by schoolteachers from the pre-kindergarten through collegiate level, will reduce ticket prices for educators by 25% across all seating areas in the Waterside Theatre. The Educator’s Discount is sponsored by Pepsi Bottling Ventures. 

To access this discount when booking tickets online at www.thelostcolony.org, look for the price code “Pepsi Educator”. The discount is also usable over the phone by calling The Lost Colony’s Box Office at 252-473-6000 or in-person. Educators may be asked to show proof of profession when redeeming this discount.

Dare County’s longest-running kids art program, the 37th Annual Artrageous Kids Art Festival, will be held THIS SATURDAY (May 9) from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Dowdy Park in Nags Head! 🎨🖌️🖼️

Artrageous is a free, family-friendly event that includes interactive art activities, live music and dance performances, as well as an artisan market and food vendors. Building paper kites, mask making, creating puppets, making buttons, metal stamping, throwing clay on a wheel, leaf rubbing, face painting, and constructing pinwheels are just a few of the free art activities that children can participate in at this year’s Artrageous.
