It was rainy morning on the beach today but the week will be shaping up nicely for Independence Day! Check out this week's beach report to learn where to celebrate the holiday week.

Summer is in full swing and we are bracing ourselves for one of the busiest weeks of the season. Do you know what to do if you suspect a wild horse is in immediate danger or seriously hurt?

If you come across a horse you believe is in distress or witness illegal activity (feeding or touching/getting too close), please immediately call the Currituck County communications center at 252-453-3633. Law enforcement can be dispatched and they will contact our staff who is on call 24/7. We may then reach out to you for more details - photographs and videos are often crucial, so please keep that in mind and document what you’re seeing if possible.

Posting about injuries or other issues on Facebook without first calling dispatch wastes valuable response time, makes communication difficult for us, and could put horses and people in danger. Please save the number in your phone if you are going to be on the 4x4 and let that call be your first step if you believe a horse needs help.

Local Spotlight: Mike Dianna's Grill Room

Thanks to Vusic OBX, Justin conducts a one-on-one interview with Niko Moon, 2021 CMT Music Award Nominee for Breakthrough Video of the Year for his hit "Good Time" and 2022 iHeartRadio Nominee for Best New Country Artist. Niko takes the stage at Roanoke Island Festival Park in Manteo on June 30 as part of the 2024 Togetherness Tour with Michael Franti and Spearhead. From Corolla to Ocracoke there will be six fireworks shows, live music, three parades, a sand sculpture contest, an apple pie contest, a road race, a race over the sand dunes, community suppers and so much more. Outer Banks Sporting Events invites you to run/walk/overcome 2 miles on Jockey's Ridge, the tallest natural sand dune system in the eastern US! Attracting runners looking for a "unique" challenge (and drawing a very competitive field), we also welcome people to walk the course (not just a "walk in the park" though)! Proceeds benefit Friends of Jockey's Ridge, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting, preserving and enhancing Jockey's Ridge State Park.
