Fishing has continued to improve over the last couple of days. If the current forecast holds for this week, other than a few rain showers, it should be a good week to wet a line! Light to moderate southwest winds for the majority of the week should make for good fishing on all fronts.
The kite fishing bite fired off the last couple of days and led to some really nice catches of Yellowfin, although the sharks got their fair share.... Along with the Yellowfin, some of the Oregon Inlet offshore boats have come in with decent catches of Dolphin and a handful of Blue Marlin. Further down the beach out of Hatteras, there have been catches of Dolphin, King Mackerel, Blackfin Tuna, and Blue Marlin.
Nearshore fishing has really heated up with a good showing of Cobia, Black Drum, and Red Drum up and down the beach. We have heard of a few Spanish Mackerel as well, and that bite should only get better from here.
In the surf, we have heard reports of big Bluefish upwards of 12lbs, lots of Sea Mullet, Black Drum, and a few nice Puppy Drum.
The piers have been reporting Bluefish, Puffers, Black Drum, Sea Mullet, and a few Spanish Mackerel. Jennettes Pier is reporting 63 degree water temps!
On the sound side, the big Bluefish have been wreaking havoc on everything! We got a report over the weekend that they were eating folks Speckled Trouts at the Little Bridge! That being said, some nice Trout have begun to show up in the usual places as well as some nice Puppy Drum on the flats near Oregon Inlet!
We got a few reports from some Junior anglers that a super fun weekend catching a bunch of fish! Ryan Gregory sent us a picture of Elijah with a Bluefish he hooked by himself! William Joyner sent us some awesome pictures of 7 year old Bennett who caught a 17” Flounder!
