The 72nd Annual Nags Head Surf Fishing Tournament got off to an interesting start this year! With modified fishing times due to tide and weather, today’s session proved to be challenging for some teams, while others had a more productive start! It will be exciting to see how tomorrow shapes up!

The first hand surf fishing report we received from our staff participating in the tournament includes: Bluefish ranging in size 10-24”, keeper Speckled Trout, Spot, Sea Mullet and Flounder. The team Sandbar Anglers, which is comprised of some of some local clientele as well as our very own Maggie Garris, caught today’s largest Trout. Congrats to Dave Masters on his 22 incher! Good luck to all the teams fishing tomorrow!

The inshore fishing has also been a good spot for anglers to catch a variety of species. We are hearing reports of Bluefish, Speckled Trout, big Drum, Puppy Drum, and Sheepshead. The Little Bridge was packed this morning and quite a few anglers fought the wind this evening! Max Tongier, from the Kitty Hawk Store, had an exciting morning yesterday with a nice 6.7lb. Trout. @mott_ridge_charters had a successful charter with plenty of Speckled Trout to show for it as well!

We have also been hearing a few reports of Drum on the piers. Shop Employee, Doug Hines, caught a 40 in her Tuesday evening! Lots of anglers headed to the pier came in to load up on sinkers and grab fresh Mullet this afternoon. We should see some Drum caught tonight, but tomorrow should be perfect conditions! They are also catching Spot and Sea Mullet from the piers as well.
