Surf Fishing Report:
We are having perfect beach days on the Outer Banks sandbar. The water is clear and warm, the winds are light. The fishing did pick up yesterday from the surf and also from the piers. There were Sea Mullet, Bluefish, Spot and Pompano. Pompano are caught when the water is warm and clear. They will feed anytime of the day on shrimp and sand fleas. Often pompano are caught just off a few feet of the drop-off close to the beach where they are waiting for the sand fleas to be swept into their mouths by receding waves. They are fun to catch, because they are hard fighting fish. They are a delicious fish with nice firm meat. Pompano are like spadefish, they like small pieces of bait because they have small mouths that easily tear.
The winds are NE at 8 and the water temp is 78 degrees.
