Cape Hatteras National Seashore Night Driving Routes
Reopen to ORV Use on September 15
Superintendent David Hallac announces that on Tuesday, September 15 (at midnight) Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) routes in Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) will reopen to night driving where no turtle nests remain or to the first posted closure in that route. Sea turtle protection areas with daytime corridors in front (seaward) of the nest will be closed at night and no driving is allowed in front of these nests at night. The Seashore’s ORV special regulation states that from September 15 to November 15, night driving is allowed on ORV routes, or portions thereof, with no turtle nests remaining. A permit is required for any off-road vehicle use in the National Seashore.
Surf Fishing Report:
Fishing picked up yesterday from the surf. There were some Pompano, Sea Mullet and a Bluefish. Another beautiful day. The winds are light the water is calm and clear.
The winds are NW at 7 and the water temp is 76 degrees.
Sound Fishing Report:
The Little Bridge on the Nags Head/Manteo causeway reported Trout, Flounder and Stripers.
Pier Fishing Report:
Avalon: No Report.
Nags Head: Albacore, Spanish and Bluefish.
Jennette’s: Bluefish, Spanish and Bar Jacks.
Outer Banks: Bluefish, Pompano, Spanish and Sea Mullet
Inshore Boats/Nearshore Report:
Inshore anglers caught plenty of Spanish and Blues. There was a 44 # Cobia caught on light tackle and also a Red Drum release. Nearshore are catching Albacore and good numbers of Bluefish and Spanish. The open boats are catching Sea Mullet, Gray Trout, Flounder, Croakers and Spot.
Offshore Boats Report:
Monday was another big Billfish day. 27 White Marlin, 3 Blue and 5 Sailfish releases. Big-eye Tuna were caught weighing in at 222 # and 163 #. Good catches of Yellowfin, Some Blackfin and good numbers of Dolphin were also brought back to the docks.
