Art Exhibit Opening for Doreen Farah Nadolny

Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks, Art Exhibit Opening for Doreen Farah Nadolny
Event Description:

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Outer Banks (UUCOB) will be hosting the opening of a new art exhibition by encaustic artist Doreen Farah Nadolny.

Encaustic—derived from the Greek word meaning “to burn”—is an ancient art form that combines beeswax, natural damar resin, and pigment. Heated and layered, the medium is brushed onto a surface, then fused with heat to create a smooth, translucent finish. It can also be molded, carved, embedded with objects, or enhanced with shellac for dramatic effects.

Nadolny, a retired teacher who has lived in Nags Head since 2010, discovered encaustic painting just a few years ago and quickly developed her own vibrant style. In her work, Nadolny manipulates encaustic wax to create mosaic, starburst, and geode-inspired designs, often incorporating driftwood, seagrass, sea glass, seashells, and other local finds. These Outer Banks artifacts take on new life through her vivid colors and textured surfaces.

The exhibition will feature about 30 pieces and run from September 28 through December. Artwork will be available for purchase at the opening and afterward by calling 252-202-9894.
