Duck is one of the few places on the Outer Banks where you can ditch the car and walk to everything: restaurants, shops, watersports outfitters, events and even a park.
Accommodating this easy walkability is the Duck Boardwalk, which stretches along the town’s Village Commercial District from Aqua Restaurant & Spa to The Blue Point, sometimes in full sun, sometimes dipping under the shade of live oaks. Strolling the 0.78-mile-long walkway over the sound takes you past shops and restaurants with waterfront views, and it’s a popular spot for sunset viewing.
Along N.C. Highway 12, known as Duck Road, a dedicated multiuse path also connects the town attractions, which means pedestrians and cyclists can easily and safely navigate through town. The path extends beyond the village to outfitters and restaurants north of town as well, perfect for bicycling.
This ease of getting around makes the Town of Duck a favorite shopping and dining destination as well as a popular vacation home base. You can browse boutiques and galleries, stop for refreshments at a wine bar or coffee shop, play in the park then get ice cream cones for the kids, and walk to restaurants for lunch or dinner, all without ever getting into the car.
