Only the curmudgeoniest of curmudgeons could not have thrilled at the Outer Banks snowfall on Tuesday, February 24. Starting mid-morning and lasting into the evening, all of the Outer Banks, from Ocracoke to Corolla, was blanketed with a most wonderful layer of snow. Boardwalks became white ribbons skirting ice-filled sounds. Jockey's Ridge rose up like a magical, slick ski (or boogie board!) trail. All around the towns, snowmen appeared. And we bet that once darkness fell, many Outer Bankers snuggled up in front of a fire with a bowl of soup in hand. A snow day. Not exactly rare on these islands but certainly uncommon enough to still turn adults into excited children and excited children into...well, what trumps excited children?!
Though it's melting into memory today, here are some pictures taken by our Outer Banks This Week staff as well as ones sent in by readers. Enjoy! And do a little snow dance that we get more in tonight's storm!
