Fresh from Outer Banks -- Chip Hemingway, the architect who designed Jennette’s Pier, is also an accomplished artist and he recently won Best of Show in the Fresh from the Outer Banks Plein-air painting festival with more than seventy-five artists. He’s pictured with the winning painting in the second-floor gallery at Dare Arts in Manteo during First Friday. According to their website, Plein air artists are invited to come celebrate this “open-air” style of painting. It’s a wonderful time of year to get outside, connect with other artists, and discover the beauty and charm of the Outer Banks, they reported.
Hemingway, has been painting in the OBX for decades. He has also been the architect for the renovation of the Oregon Inlet Life Saving Station, the original expansion of the Roanoke Island Aquarium and multiple renovations at Roanoke Island Festival Park. He also created the masterplan for the National Audubon Pine Island Sanctuary and currently continues renovations at his beloved Jennette’s Pier. His firm, Bowman Murray and Hemingway is located in Wilmington.
