Lost Colony Tavern is proud to announce our recent switch from American bacon to authentic British BACK BACON! These delicious “rashers” from Jolly Posh Foods come to us imported directly from Great Britain!

"What is a RASHER of BACK BACON?" ?

“Back bacon” is the name given to the most popular type of bacon eaten in the UK and Ireland. A "RASHER" is what you call a single slice of it. Back bacon is traditionally made with pork loin, unlike American bacon which is cut from pork belly (we'd call that “streaky bacon”). And don't mistake this for Canadian bacon either! Canadian bacon is a thicker, circular cut of just the loin and often comes precooked like ham. As you can see, back bacon is the best of both worlds; Delicious lean, meaty loin with a "strap" of belly fat for extra flavour. Drop by and taste the authentic flavours of the British Isles right here in Downtown Manteo!

NOW POURING: Wells Banana Bread Beer!

Straight from Eagle Brewery in Bedford, England, we’ve just tapped the latest batch of Wells Banana Bread Beer on draft! This inspired brew is made with Fair Trade bananas to create a fantastic beer with an incredibly unique flavour and aroma. Drop by a try a pint this week!

As most of you already know, we use ONLY fresh seafood sourced from local waters. For our FISH + CHIPS, we use a rotating selection of local fish sold to us fresh off the boats from our amazing seafood purveyors at the Port of Wanchese on the south end of Roanoke Island.

This week’s Fish + Chips features RIBBONFISH, known for its briny, mild flavor and small white flakes. Ribbonfish have a striking appearance. Their tiny scales are bright silver, almost reflective. They have yellow eyes and a long mouth filled with sharp teeth. They are often caught by recreational anglers on piers and in the surf of the Southeast. Ribbonfish are a prized food fish in Japan, but have yet to be widely embraced by American eaters. The flesh is between flounder and sea trout – mild with a hint of briny, ocean flavor. The texture is delicate, with white, flaky meat.
