The Currituck County Department of Travel & Tourism invites you to Historic Corolla Park for our annual Independence Day Celebration! Activities begin at 5:00pm and conclude with the largest fireworks show on the Outer Banks at dusk. Admission is free and free parking is available at the park until our lots are full. Right when you enter, the nicest tour guides are there to greet you and your family! Starting on the beautiful back porch and making your way throughout the house, you will stop in different rooms and learn all about the how in 1920, Edward Collings Knight, Jr., and his wife Marie-Louise LaBel Knight purchased land outside the village of Corolla, naming their new residence Corolla Island. Built between 1922 and 1925, the house features 20 rooms across three stories in an Art Nouveau style, including custom Tiffany lamps and Louis Majorelle furniture.

The Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education, opened in 2006, is a 22,000 square foot interpretive center showcasing North Carolina's wildlife. It offers free activities for kids, regular film showings, and engaging fun facts for all ages.

In addition to the physical boats on display, a powerful visitor experience is delivered through stunning photography, breathtaking videography, hands-on exhibits, demonstrations and educational programs.

If you come across a horse you believe is in distress or witness illegal activity (feeding or touching/getting too close), please immediately call the Currituck County communications center at 252-453-3633. Law enforcement can be dispatched and they will contact our staff who is on call 24/7. We may then reach out to you for more details - photographs and videos are often crucial, so please keep that in mind and document what you’re seeing if possible.

Posting about injuries or other issues on Facebook without first calling dispatch wastes valuable response time, makes communication difficult for us, and could put horses and people in danger. Please save the number in your phone if you are going to be on the 4x4 and let that call be your first step if you believe a horse needs help.
