After a sell out inaugural season, Dare Arts is excited to announce that the Outer Banks Film Society will return in September for its second season to screen independent films, movie classics, documentaries, shorts and world cinema. Unlike purchasing a ticket to go see a movie at the local theater, you join the Outer Banks Film Society through an annual or seasonal membership. An annual membership is $140 and includes 12 films, plus member-only discounts for other film related events, including the Surfalorus Film Festival in September and the Outer Banks Environmental Film Festival in November. Seasonal (fall or winter) memberships include six films per season.

Reintroducing Nor’Banks’ 1971 Flying Scot, Kaya. Restored and rechristened this year, Kaya was named for track eight on Bob Marley and the Wailers’ 1971 release, Soul Revolution. Kaya is sporting new rigging, a Rastafari-inspired paint job by Emil Szemcsak, and zebra wood trim made with remnants from a wooden surfboard Dan made back in 2007. Why go to all that trouble for an old daysailer? Because she’s a classic and she deserves some flair. Because we love pointless details. Because… why not?

The 11th annual Ocracoke Fig Festival is happening NEXT WEEK, Aug 2-3. The festival will have live music, a traditional Ocracoke square dance, children’s crafts, talks by local fig experts and vendor booths offering fig preserves, fig cakes, fig trees, and other fig-tastic items. The weekend’s finale will be a dance with the Ocracoke Rockers. We can't wait to see you there!
