It's not always fun and games for the staff at Wildhorse Adventure Tours. Okay, it's always fun.. but there's also learning that goes along with the fun. A quick peek inside our training and meeting day recently held, where new and veteran team members gathered to learn, discuss, and share information and knowledge. We were quite lucky to have Corolla Wild Horse Fund join for a portion of the meeting to offer insight on the herd, its changes, and best practices for touring and visiting the 4x4 area. And.. it ended with cookies, so it's a win for everyone. 😉

BIG thanks to Corolla Wild Horse Fund and Meg Puckett, Director of Herd Management, for joining us yesterday during our company-wide team meeting. Meg spoke to the growth and changes taking place with the banker horses, as well as best practices for touring and visiting the 4x4 area. We are continually grateful for the endless work they do to champion the wild horses.

Welcome back to Thursday's GREET THE GUIDES, where you'll get a little behind-the-scenes peek at this year's awesome team.

Meet Mike. He's worked with W.H.A.T. for 10 years and claims to know every backroad and nook and cranny in the 4-wheel drive area. After driving and exploring these sandy avenues for this long, we believe him!

Mike loves being outside, searching for wild horses and other wildlife. He also really enjoys the interactions he has with our guests, especially seeing and hearing their reactions when we find them. "I love telling the history of the horses and discussing their amazing physical attributes."

The tour guide experiences Mike enjoys the most are seeing newly born foals, then watching them grow over time. "They are highly rambunctious and playful, beginning only days after they are born and throughout their first year. Eventually, as they mature, they become calm and majestic most of the time -- except, of course, when they're fighting or mating."

What's his secret for those amazing, interesting, and memorable tours? "I have to have starbucks at least 1 to 2 times a day, or else I will not give give a satisfactory tour," he jokes. "Most of the places I take my guests are permitted by law, and some are questionable," he added with a grin. "Nevertheless, I always bring back every guest that went out with me in one piece." 😉😁

Thank you ladies for visiting and recognizing Chris! **Big shout out to Chris at the Duck store. 4 of us ladies visiting the Outer Banks from Ohio this last week came in everyday to get ice cream. Chris was always friendly and very helpful even when the store was busy. She never got frazzled or stressed. Great service! We even got a picture with her because her customer service was excellent!

📰 This just in!...fuzzy, floofy, bitty babies are the sweetest!

Okay, not quite a news flash. But we just had to share. Big thanks to tour guide extraordinaire, Cheryl "Shorty" Short for passing along these sweet shots of baby Finola and Momma Amelia from this afternoon. As you can see, both are nourished and thriving with the return of spring.

Here's a PHENOMENAL video from the Corolla Wild Horse Fund to see, especially as we begin our busiest season.

Please pay particular attention to the part where Meg Puckett, Director of Herd Management educates us on our role in the Banker's lives, "Their habitat also includes us ....so it's very important to remember that if you're coming to the 4x4 beaches, the minute you set foot on the beach, you also become a part of the horses' habitat, and that means you have a responsibility to protect and preserve them."

Also a good time to remind us all to: not approach the horses, maintain at least a 50 foot distance, do not feed or harass the horses and GO SLOW. We are part of the joy and the solution.
