Hauled Out -- Another cloudy morning but the sun is trying to break through. No one fishing yet but two dozen bird watchers are out and about. Winds North at 17 knots. Low tide 6:43 a.m. High tide 12:30 p.m. Air 49 degrees, ocean water at surface 45 degrees. A gray seal that was hanging around on the beach has moved on. Photo by educator Meredith Fish.

Sunny and brisk. One angler is fishing for DOGFISH and he caught a few yesterday. High tide 11:30 a.m. Air temp 43 degrees, water temp 47. Winds E at 7 knots. A few of our staff members who volunteer for the OBX Marine Mammal Stranding Network, checked on this gray seal yesterday, who was "hauled out" resting and sunbathing at an undisclosed beach in Nags Head. Let’s talk sea turtles. Have you seen one while visiting? Sometimes they have nests blocked off on the beach! Sometimes Park Service will do releases on the beach and let bystanders watch and even volunteer at times! Fun fact—we ask that oceanfront homes turn off their lights that face the beach so it doesn’t confused baby sea turtles to go towards the direction of the house instead of the ocean. They know the moon will direct them to the ocean. Please save our turtles by picking up your trash and others when you see it on the beach! Have you ever experienced this amazing process?
