Dolphin and Whales -- A large pod of dolphins was around this morning and this young humpback swam past the end of pier yesterday. A handful of anglers fished yesterday, and a few PUPPY DRUM were spotted but they didn't eat. Air temperature 50 degrees, ocean water temperature 45 degrees. Sunny, a light breeze of 4 mph and the ocean is glassy. High tide 5:48 a.m. Low tide 12:14 p.m.

The Lost Colony new website is live! The Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA) is proud to unveil a brand-new website to support the annual production of The Lost Colony. This new website was designed to be easy to use, mobile friendly, and provide an informative, educational look at The Lost Colony and the Roanoke Island Historical Association. The new website also features expanded sections about the history of the Roanoke Colony and the production itself, including new articles about the inaugural 1937 season and Hurricane Donna, which almost destroyed the Waterside Theatre in 1960.

Soft Tops -- Robert Farmer, owner of Farmdog Beach Services in Nags Head, donated a truck load of soft-top surfboards to the Pier's education department who teaches surfing during camp all summer long. Flashing grins from left are instructors Dustin, Kaya and Flannery.
